In times of trouble, when we are prone to fear and worry about catastrophe, many of us search for physical and mental refuges that we hope can protect us from lurking dangers.
People have to face a mixture of happiness and suffering throughout their lives.
Since ancient times, many people have sought refuges by praying to sacred ones to fulfill their wishes. They believe that the sacred supernatural power entities in the nature such as mountains, trees, rivers, stars, the moon, the sun, or other deities can protect them from harm, poverty and sickness. In the present day, human society is going through a period of advance technology and materialism. In spite of this, there are still many superstitious people around. However wishful one’s thinking might be, trees, mountains, rivers and deities are a poor substitute for a refuge because they cannot completely protect us from the implicit suffering of life.
